Chikkaballapur police have arrested two persons for allegedly conspiring terror activities through their discussions in a closed social media group.
Superintendent of Police Padmini Sahoo told The Hindu that the arrests were made on September 23 and 24, but refused to reveal names of the suspects, stating that the case was ‘under investigation’.
According to police sources, one of the suspects created a closed group on an instant messaging social media platform. He allegedly roped in a few people and held ‘provocative’ discussions that could have a ‘negative impact on people’. The conversations had been ongoing for over a month, according to the preliminary probe by the police.
The alleged discussions came to light after intelligence officers alerted the Chikkaballapur Town police, who conducted a preliminary investigation. Subsequently, the police arrested the suspects.
Chikkaballapur police have filed an FIR under Section 113(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with conspiring, organising, or causing any organisation, association or group of persons to carry out terrorist acts. The police have seized electronic devices from both the suspects, and an investigation is in progress.
