A next-generation cargo village and a dedicated heliport will be major components of a master plan to be prepared by Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), targeting development over the next quarter of a century, according to company officials.

The master plan coincides with the 25th anniversary celebrations of the airport company. It will cover development across airside, terminal, cargo, landside, connectivity, utilities, commercial expansion and sustainability, while also anticipating land requirements for future growth. The consultancy for preparing the plan has been awarded for ₹7.83 crore, with a deadline of ten months, according to a statement.

An analysis of a 25-year aviation demand forecast will be prepared. A feasibility assessment for a second runway and associated taxiway/apron infrastructure will also be undertaken. A business and development strategy for a next-generation Cargo Village and a dedicated heliport, including terminal infrastructure, hangars and connectivity, will be studied, according to the statement.
