A group of civil society volunteers on Saturday (September 19, 2026) urged the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to extend by at least two months the deadline for claims and objections and the notice phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the national capital, citing the “scale of notices and exclusions”.
A delegation from the Voter Adhikar Manch met Delhi CEO Ashok Kumar and raised concerns over the number of notices issued to voters, alleged wrongful exclusions and the need for greater transparency in the revision process.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the group said it had urged the Election Commission’s Delhi office to extend the deadline for claims, objections and the notice phase by at least two months, citing the large number of notices and exclusions during the revision exercise. According to the Manch, Mr. Kumar said the authorities would review the ongoing process and manpower requirements and consider extending the deadline if necessary.
The organisation also demanded that the criteria used to identify “logical discrepancies” in voter records be made public, and that notices include complete details of individual cases. It also sought the issuance of notices in Hindi and communication through SMS alerts wherever voters’ phone numbers are available. The CEO assured the delegation of considering the suggestions, the statement said.
Welcoming the publication of a list of voters who have been issued notices, which the group said was made public on Friday (September 18), the Manch called for an online search facility enabling voters to check whether they had received a notice by entering their EPIC numbers. The CEO said the proposal would be discussed with the IT team.
The delegation also sought special camps for homeless persons, those affected by demolitions, transgender persons and other marginalised groups to facilitate their participation in the voter-verification process. According to the statement, the CEO responded positively to the proposal.
Among other demands, the group sought the display of deleted voters and those issued notices at all polling stations. It said the CEO agreed to the suggestion.
