Class VIII student dies after being administered injection by RMP in Khammam district

A class VIII student of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Konijerla died after allegedly being administered an injection by a rural medical practitioner (RMP) for fever at Baswapuram in Khammam district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Hemasri, a resident of Baswapuram.

According to sources, Hemasri fell ill after returning home from Bonalu celebrations in the village on Sunday evening. Her parents took her to a local RMP, identified as Sampath, for treatment. The RMP allegedly administered an injection to her following which she reportedly developed breathing difficulties.

Her parents subsequently rushed her to a private hospital in Khammam, where doctors declared her brought dead.

The incident triggered outrage among villagers who demanded stringent action against “unauthorised medical practitioners” operating in rural areas.

Hemasri’s father lodged a complaint against the RMP at the Konijerla police station on Monday. The police registered a case and launched an investigation. The exact cause of the girl’s death is yet to be ascertained.
