Food Safety officials have ordered the closure of a supermarket and prohibited repacking of grocery goods at a shop functioning on Agraharam Street in Virudhunagar for want of food safety licence on Saturday.
A team of officials, led by the Virudhunagar district Food Safety Designated Officer, S. Mariappan, conducted a surprise check at some of the shops.
Theofficials found that the supermarket did not have food safety licence. Hence, it was asked to close down.
The grocery shop though had licence for retail sale, the shop was involved in repacking of the grocery goods.
The repacking was done at a godown on South Car Street without any licence.
The officials also seized 12 kg of mislabled masala.
The officials prohibited repacking of the goods on Monday.
A teastall near the Old Bus stand was found to be using banned plastic goods and distribution of snacks in printed papers. The officials imposed fine on the shop.
