CM accorded rousing reception at Meenakshi Temple in Madurai

Chief Minister Joseph Vijay was accorded a rousing reception at the world famous Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple on Monday.

The CM, who was here on a day’s visit to participate in a government function, arrived at the temple’s East Tower around 4 p.m. A large number of cadres and fans of the actor-turned-politician had assembled in large numbers since 2 p.m. Police had a tough time at a few points in Chithirai Street, through which the CM’s convoy entered and reached the Amman Sannidhi.

Apart from Ministers Anand, R. Nirmalkumar, Viswanathan, Arun Raj, Ramesh, MPs and MLAs, HR & CE Commissioner T.G. Vinay, Madurai Collector Nishanth Krishna, Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, the Temple Fit Person and Board of Trustees chair person Rukmini Palanivel Rajan and others accorded special honours.

The CM was taken around the Potramarai Kulam and explained the historic significance of the temple. After spending about 45 minutes, Mr. Vijay, who was on a cheerful note, posed for photographs with his cabinet colleagues near the temple tank.

Police had made elaborate security arrangements in view of the Chief Minister’s visit. Traffic was diverted and many shopkeepers were told to down shutters for sometime as a precautionary measure. For over three hours, devotees were not allowed entry into the temple, police added.

On September 17, the kumbabishekam was performed and since then, there has been a steady flow of devotees to have a darshan of the presiding deity.

Later, the Chief Minister left for the airport and took a special flight to Chennai, officials said.
