Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy put the onus of maintaining the city’s sanitation on the newly designated 12 zonal commissioners of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and asked them to be on the field every day to monitor their designated areas.
In a review meeting with higher officials of the GHMC on Tuesday, the Chief Minister sought to lay out a road map for the zonal commissioners towards planned development of the Telangana Core Urban Region. He asked the corporation to formulate a five-year action plan towards development of the newly-expanded GHMC area.
He said the most difficult task before them was the waste management in the city, and directed them to conduct sanitation special drives regularly, once every 10 days.
CCTV cameras should be installed at lakes, drains and locations where garbage is dumped illegally. The roads should be clear of waste, he said, and informed them about the government’s decision to completely eradicate plastic [single use] from the TCUR region. He asked the GHMC, HYDRAA and water board to begin de-silting of storm water drains and sewage network from January.
Speaking about comprehensive measures for pollution control within the city, Mr. Revanth Reddy said a decision has been made to enforce Electrical Vehicles in the TCUR area instead of diesel buses and autos. He directed the officials to use technology to induce transparency into services such as issue of birth and death certificates, trade licences and others. He asked the officials to ensure that the city has adequate number of streetlights and be in contact with the colony and residential welfare associations.
Special chief secretary of the Metropolitan Area & Urban Development will act as the coordinating authority among various civic wings, he informed.
He issued directions with regard to vector control and disease prevention, and speedy grievance redressal in the city.
