The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) is likely to conduct the statutory safety inspection of the 7.5-km elevated section of Bengaluru’s Pink Line metro between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere from October 6 to 8.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had submitted an application seeking the statutory inspection on September 18.
According to officials, V. Venkatasubramanian, Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety, Southern Circle, is likely to inspect the newly constructed Reach 6 elevated section, covering the stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere stations.
The multi-day inspection will assess whether the newly constructed section meets the safety requirements for commercial passenger operations. The inspection is expected to include the Operations Control Centre (OCC), following speed trials conducted on the stretch.
If the section receives the mandatory safety clearance from the CMRS, BMRCL can proceed with preparations for opening the stretch for passenger services.
The 21.3-km Pink Line, which has missed several deadlines, comprises a 7.5-km elevated section and a 13.8-km underground section. The underground stretch will connect Dairy Circle, M.G. Road, Shivajinagar and Tannery Road, providing a north-south metro link through central Bengaluru.
