The Coimbatore City Police have issued detailed instructions for establishments and the public ahead of New Year celebrations to ensure safety and smooth traffic movement.
Guidelines for establishments include taking necessary precautions to prevent law and order issues, deploying private security, providing adequate parking, reporting suspicious activity, and maintaining fully operational CCTV cameras.
All entertainment establishments are also expected to restrict entry to alcohol parties to those above legal age, and provide safe transport for guests and female employees. Organisers must avoid vulgar programmes, ensure ticketing does not exceed venue capacity, and prevent use of illegal substances.
Event timings and traffic regulations mandate that celebrations end by 12.30 a.m. and guests leave by 1 a.m. On Wednesday (December 31), all flyovers will be closed from 9 p.m., except North Coimbatore Flyover, Upplipalayam flyover, Sathy Road Textool Bridge, and Avarampalayam Flyover.
Drunk driving, speeding, racing, or use of modified exhaust will be penalised under the Motor Vehicles Act, with vehicle seizure and licence cancellation possible.
Around 1,600 police personnel including four Deputy Commissioners, two Additional Deputy Commissioners, two units of Tamil Nadu Special Police and Home Guards will be deployed on the day. Vehicle checks will be conducted at 70 locations, with 11 border checkpoints monitoring city entry. Patrols will include 28 four-wheelers, 59 two-wheelers, and 7 Pink Patrols for womenâs safety. Ambulances will be stationed at key junctions, and six Rapid Action forces will be deployed.
