The Coimbatore Corporation has received 43 battery-operated vehicles from Leap Green Energy under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to strengthen door-to-door collection and source segregation of solid waste.
The vehicles were handed over to the Corporation in the presence of Backward Classes Welfare Minister V. Sampath Kumar on Saturday (September 19, 2026). The vehicles, together valued at ₹86 lakh, were provided to the Corporation under the company’s CSR initiative.
The vehicles have been provided with four separate bins for the collection of wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and special-care waste, in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, to facilitate segregation at source during door-to-door collection.
The bins are colour-coded, with green for wet waste, blue for dry waste, red for sanitary waste and black for special-care waste.
The vehicles take about three to four hours to charge and can travel between 80 km and 100 km on a single charge. Each vehicle has a carrying capacity of 500 kg and is expected to cover about 250 households a day.
The Corporation already has 125 battery-operated vehicles. With the addition of the 43 vehicles provided under the CSR initiative, its fleet will increase to 168 vehicles.
Corporation officials said the vehicles would be deployed in the wards based on requirements after completion of the RTO formalities.
