Coimbatore Corporation plans Phase II works at newly built hockey ground under ‘Namakku Naame’ scheme

The Coimbatore Corporation has planned Phase II works for the international-standard hockey ground under the Namakku Naame Thittam.

The ground has been developed on a 7.02-acre site on the premises of the Corporation Higher Secondary School at R.S. Puram.

The second phase of the project proposes additional infrastructure, including a spectator gallery with a capacity of 1,700, a conference hall, a separate dining hall for players, a gym, rest rooms, office space, and parking facilities. The plan includes parking for 114 cars and 208 two-wheelers. The estimated cost for Phase II is ₹15 crore, and discussions with various stakeholders are ongoing, a senior official said.

The first phase of the project has been completed at a cost of ₹9.67 crore. It includes two synthetic turf fields measuring 100 metres by 65 metres, covering a total area of 6,500 sq. metres. A separate building with toilets, changing rooms, and 14 lockers each for men and women, covering 147.15 sq. metres, has also been provided. Other facilities completed in the first phase include a 330-metre-long drainage system, a 15-mm-thick shock pad, six pop-up sprinklers, and six stadium mast lights. The facilities are ready for inauguration.
