There is no respite from the biting cold and low temperatures prevailing in and around the Mysuru region since the last few days, even as night temperatures fall below normal followed by early morning chill.
On Sunday, the temperature fell to single digits in most parts of the region, and Chikkamagaluru recorded 7.6 degree Celsius and it was the lowest in the region, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC).
While Hassan was shivering at 8.3 degree C, the minimum temperature in Kodagu was 8.5 degree C, and in Mysuru, it was 8.8 degree C. The minimum temperature in Mandya was 9.7 degree C while in Chamarajanagar it was 10 degree C during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, according to KSNDMC.
The sharp drop in temperature forced people, especially those who leave for work early such as auto or cab drivers, pourakarmikas etc, to light small fires along roadsides to keep themselves warm.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that cold wave conditions will prevail over Mysuru, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, and other districts of south interior Karnataka for the next 2 days. But the minimum temperature recorded by IMD was at variance with the KSNDMC figures for many districts. The difference was significant with respect to Mysuru, though it was marginal with respect to other centres.
