Working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) K.T. Rama Rao criticised the Congress government stating that it has delivered nothing substantial to the people and is instead indulging in ‘diversion politics’ through false propaganda and politically motivated investigations since coming to power.
In an informal chat with mediapersons here on Monday, he said making former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao sit for hours in the name of inquiry amounted to an attack on democratic values and was done merely to satisfy the government’s political vendetta.
He alleged that both the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had failed to secure adequate funds for Telangana and demanded that the claims about investments announced at Davos be taken up for discussion in the next Assembly session.
Mr. Rama Rao thanked BRS cadre and supporters for the massive protests held across Telangana, stating that demonstrations had taken place in over 12,000 gram panchayats and effigies of the government were burnt in more than 7,000 villages. He said the scale and decentralised nature of these protests reminded people of the Telangana movement days.
Stating that the Congress government was grappling with three fundamental failures — administrative collapse, deterioration of law and order and the plunder of natural resources, he cited the poor arrangements at Medaram Jatara and how public anger spilled over into vandalism.
Dismissing the prolonged questioning of Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao as political theatre, he stated that though the law allowed officials to examine him at his residence, he chose to cooperate fully and attend in person. He alleged that the heavy police deployment was meant only to create a media spectacle and distract people from governance failures.
He remarked that police officers such as V.C. Sajjanar or anyone else had no authority to declare something ‘illegal’ through tweets, press conferences or selective leaks, stressing that legality could be determined only by courts. On the Pradesh Congress Committee president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud’s ‘blackmail party’ charge, Mr. Rama Rao called it baseless and dared him to name even one person whom BRS had allegedly blackmailed.
