Congress party’s Vijayawada Parliament incharge Bhargav Valluru has opposed the proposed transshipment port project in Great Nicobar, raising concerns over environmental damage and lack of public consent.
In a statement on Sunday, Mr. Bhargav referred to the recent visit of party leader Rahul Gandhi to the island, stating that it highlighted the potential ecological impact of the project. He alleged that over a million trees were likely to be cut for the ₹92,000 crore initiative, which included a port project linked to the Adani Group.
