CPI blames Congress, DMK for INDIA bloc’s defeat in Puducherry Assembly polls

The Communist Party of India has blamed the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the poor performance of INDIA bloc in the 2026 Assembly polls in Puducherry.

A political resolution adopted at the State Council meeting of the party’s Puducherry unit on Friday said that the fight between the Congress and the DMK for dominance in the INDIA bloc during the seat sharing talks led to the collapse of the alliance in the Union Territory.

“The previous AINRC- BJP government was involved in several wrong doings. The government’s image had taken a severe beating because of corruption charges, arrest of revenue officials, fake drug manufacturing case and Kamatchi Amman Temple land scam. But the Congress and the DMK spoiled the chances of the Opposition coming to power by fighting against each other. The fight between the Congress and the DMK helped the AINRC- BJP combine to return to power,” the resolution said. 

The Left parties were in the forefront of the agitations against the AINRC-BJP and took every step possible to coordinate among secular parties. However, the Congress and the DMK failed to raise up to the occasion, the resolution said. 

The party has come out strongly against the AINRC-BJP government for the present status of the inquiry into the spurious drug manufacturing case. “All the accused have come out on bail in the case. The case has made slow progress because of the political connections that the accused have in Delhi and Puducherry,” the resolution added.

The party also criticised the Centre on the CBSE circular making three language formula compulsory in all schools affiliated to the board. CPI national secretary Annie Raja and party secretary A. M. Saleem participated in the Council meeting.
