CPI urges Naidu to press Centre for changes in VB–G RAM G Act

A delegation of the Communist Party of India led by its national secretariat member K. Ramakrishna on Monday sought Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s intervention in the implementation of the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, earlier known as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

The CPI leaders expressed concern that the reduction of the Central government’s funding share from 90% to 60% would place a heavy financial burden on the States, which would now have to bear 40% of the expenditure as against 10% earlier. They also alleged that, contrary to the Centre’s claim of increasing the guaranteed work days from 100 to 125, not even an average of 50 days of employment had been provided so far, making access to wage employment in rural areas more difficult under the new law.

The delegation requested Mr. Naidu to take up the issue with the Central government and seek suitable amendments to the Act in the interests of rural wage seekers. They also opposed the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the nomenclature of the legislation. CPI leaders G. Eswaraiah and Muppalla Nageswara Rao were present.
