The CPI(M) State committee condemned the alleged lathi charge against YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) workers and unemployed youth protesting the sports quota appointments under the District Selection Committee (DSC) recruitment.
In a statement on Tuesday (September 22, 2026), CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao said political parties, associations, and organisations had a fundamental right in a democracy to bring their grievances to the notice of the government through protests. Denying them that right was undemocratic, he added.
“Instead of trading challenges and counter-challenges, the government should order a judicial inquiry into the allegations concerning the DSC sports quota appointments, which would bring out the facts. It was not appropriate to involve teachers in the issue for the government’s own interests. Bringing teachers into the field against those raising allegations over the DSC appointments, without providing adequate answers to the charges, would further complicate the issue and could lead to confrontation,” he said.
The government should refrain from such measures and take steps to resolve the issue, he added.
