CPI(M-L) Liberation demands removal of CEC

Members of the CPI(M-L) Liberation held a protest in front of the Tipu Sultan Garden in Raichur on Friday, demanding the immediate dismissal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of electoral rolls.

​The protesters highlighted media reports revealing that two of the three Election Commissioners raised objections at least 14 times regarding key decisions made by the CEC.

The party alleged that these findings expose significant flaws, bias, and a lack of transparency in the functioning of the Election Commission of India.

The protesters demanded the removal of the CEC. Holding him accountable for undermining institutional integrity and public trust, they demanded the suspension of the SIR exercise and the restoration of the voting rights of all eligible citizens who were mistakenly excluded from the electoral rolls.

They highlighted concerns over the centralisation of voter data and software restrictions that hindered local registration officers —such as in Goa, where software glitches prevented registration officers from enrolling 97 eligible voters.

The protesters called for replacing the current selection process for Election Commissioners with the model recommended by the Supreme Court, comprising the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Chief Justice of India.

Aziz Jagirdar, Bhimayya, Khader Ahmed, Nisar, Jagadish, Mahendra, Hanif Abkari, Yellappa, Veeresh, Sanna Narasappa, and Maranna were present at the demonstration, and they urged all non-BJP, secular, and democratic parties to unite to protect India’s democratic system.
