CPI (M) Bhadradri Kothagudem district committee has demanded that the State government take urgent steps to fortify the karakatta (flood bank) along the Godavari river in Bhadrachalam to ward off the ‘Polavaram backwaters threat’ to the temple town.
Addressing the media in Bhadrachalam on Monday, party district secretary Machha Venkateshwarlu welcomed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s scheduled visit to Bhadrachalam on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami on March 27.
He said it is imperative to strengthen the flood bank in the temple town to find a lasting solution from the flood threat. Without a foolproof flood protection mechanism, the plans to develop Bhadrachalam town will go in vain, he pointed out.
He said the government should release the entire funds for the temple development at one go and take up the development works in a planned and time-bound manner. House site pattas should be handed over to the poor, who had lost their residential lands and shops for the development of Mada streets around the temple, by the Chief Minister during his visit to Bhadrachalam on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami, he said.
He sought passage of a resolution in the ongoing session of the State Assembly for re-transfer of five gram panchayats that were merged with Andhra Pradesh under the AP Reorganisation (Amendment) Act in 2014, to Bhadrachalam sub-division in Telangana.
A government-run sand reach should be set up in Bhadrachalam and the Bhadrachalam-Venkatapuram highway in the tribal heartland of Bhadrachalam Agency be repaired and upgraded on a war-footing, he demanded.
