Simplifying regulatory approvals, improving access to finance, and adopting artificial intelligence and robotics in construction were discussed at the fifth edition of CREDAI Tamil Nadu’s STATECON 2026, which began in Chennai on Sunday.

This years’ theme was ‘Tamil Nadu 2036 – Building the Next Decade Towards a $1.5 Trillion Economy’. The two-day conference focused on the real estate sector’s role in Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036.

The inaugural session was attended by Minister for Minorities Welfare A.M. Shahjahan, SBI Chennai Circle Chief General Manager Vivekanand Choubey and CREDAI National President-elect G. Ram Reddy, who jointly released a report by Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), a global commercial real estate and property consultancy.

A panel discussion on ease of doing business brought together senior government officials, including Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority Chairperson K. Phanindra Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary Rajesh Lakhoni, Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development R. Kirlosh Kumar, and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority Member Secretary A.R. Rahul Nadh.

CREDAI Tamil Nadu president W.S. Habib said the State had the economic base, talent, infrastructure and entrepreneurial strength to enter a new phase of growth. He said real estate would play an important role in supporting urban development over the coming decade.

The conference also saw the induction of five new CREDAI city chapters in the Nilgiris, Kodaikanal, Vellore, Thanjavur and Karur, expanding the organisation’s presence across Tamil Nadu.

First day sessions examined changing homebuyer preferences, financing, growth beyond major cities and emerging real estate markets. FAIRBUILD 2026, held alongside the conference, provided a business platform for developers, suppliers and technology companies.
