Andhra Pradesh’s daily electricity requirement has increased from 265 MU to 290 MU, says Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar.

The Minister, along with MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao, inaugurated a 132/33 kV AP-Transco substation constructed at a cost of ₹44.25 crore at Kothapatnam in Ongole Assembly constituency on Thursday.

Addressing the media later, Mr. Ravi Kumar said, “To meet the rising demand, power generation by AP-Genco is being increased. This apart, additional electricity is being procured through other sources. The government is ensuring uninterrupted supply despite the increase in demand and will accelerate infrastructure development to meet future requirements.”

“The State is expanding its power infrastructure to meet the growing demand for electricity. The government is strengthening the power network in the rural and urban areas through construction of substations, installation of transformers and feeders, replacement of poles and old conductors, and laying of new power lines wherever required,” the Minister said.

Mr. Ravi Kumar further said that AP-Transco was investing around ₹6,000 crore for the construction of substations across the State.

“In Prakasam district alone, 11 substations have already been constructed, while another seven are under construction,” he added.

The Minister alleged that the power sector had suffered neglect during the YSRCP government’s term between 2019 and 2024. He said that several substations, for which land had been identified and funds made available, were not taken up by the YSRCP administration.

The Minister also inaugurated a Skill Development Centre in Ongole, besides opening a Centre of Excellence focused on skill training in electric vehicles, drone technology and other emerging technologies. He later reviewed the preparations for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s public meeting scheduled for Friday.
