The Kambala event will be held as part of this year’s Mysuru Dasara celebrations despite opposition from various groups, with the dates now officially announced as October 18 and 19.
At the Dasara Executive Committee meeting here on Wednesday, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Yukesh Kumar said the Kambala would be held at Sathagalli in Mysuru. Around 150 teams are expected to participate in the junior and senior categories.
Seating arrangements for 8,000 spectators have been planned and the event will be conducted in accordance with government guidelines. Infrastructure required for conducting the Kambala is being readied at the venue.
Various groups in Mysuru had earlier urged the government to drop the Kambala proposal as part of the Dasara celebrations. However, the government has proceeded with the event and finalised the dates.
Meanwhile, cultural programmes as part of Dasara will be held at the Palace and 10 other venues. More than 3,000 applications have already been received, and 400 to 500 teams will be selected for performances, Mr. Kumar said.
