The district administration has reached out to educational institutions to broad-base initiatives to prevent spread of dengue.
At a meeting with school and college teachers, District Collector Manish Narnaware emphasised on removal of waste tyres, broken cement tanks, flower pots and broken plastic containers from the surroundings of households to eradicate breeding of dengue-causing aedes mosquitoes in the stagnating water. Containers used to store water should be scrubbed thoroughly and covered properly.
The common symptoms of dengue fever that include fatigue, headache, body pain, vomiting, and pain in bones should not be ignored. Primary Health Centres and government hospitals were equipped to handle dengue fever cases, he said.
On its part, Tiruppur Corporation has deployed 400 field workers for door-step visits to eradicate larva of aedes mosquitoes on a daily basis.
Corporation Commissioner M.P. Amith said an additional 100 workers will be deployed to further strengthen dengue prevention.
Solid waste and discarded materials were being removed from residential areas and vacant plots by the field workers, and fumigation activities are being conducted continuously with four vehicles mounted with fogging machines, in residential areas, streets, school campuses, and public places, besides bus stands, and other crowded public locations.
Coordinators appointed at the ward-level were creating awareness among school students on dengue prevention and precautionary measures.
The local body has levied ₹55,000 on 49 commercial establishments, tyre shops, construction sites, and private institutions for failing to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
Every day, mobile medical teams were conducting special camps in areas where dengue cases are being reported.
The local body has cautioned people against self-medication, and has advised those affected by fever to visit the nearest Urban Primary Health Centre for medical consultation.
The Corporation has also issued guidelines to industries and commercial establishments for putting in place preventive measures. The public have been advised to contact round-the-clock helpline 104 for assistance.
The Department of Industrial Safety and Health has issued a separate set of guidelines to industries for preventing dengue. Joint Director M. Velumani instructed the industries to ensure that water does not stagnate anywhere in and around the premises, and to keep the water tanks covered.
Removal of old tyres, regular cleaning of storm water drainages, and to ensure prevention of mosquito presence in canteen, rest room, and retiring room for workers, carry out fumigation, and to supply mosquito repellants to the workers. The guidelines also required industries to fix nets in windows and doors to prevent entry of mosquitoes into the rooms, and to create awareness among workers to safeguard themselves.
