The Department of Posts on Friday inaugurated Ve(lu)R Pex, a philately exhibition at P.Thandapani Wedding Hall in Vellore.
The two-day event showcases a wide range of postal stamps and aims to promote hobby of stamp collection among students and Vellore residents. A ‘Pride of Vellore’ special cover highlighting the district’s key highlights was released on the occasion.
A press release said the exhibition would feature thematic displays, rare collections and interactive sessions to create awareness about the cultural and historical value of philately.
Inaugurating the event, Vellore Collector V.R.Subbulaxmi encouraged the students to foster interest in stamp collection. Several philatelists have set up stalls at the expo. Various competitions related to philately, including letter writing and quiz, and workshops were conducted, and prizes distributed to the winners. A puppet show depicting various services of the Department of Posts was also organised as part of the exhibition.
Vellore District Forest Officer T.K.Ashok Kumar, Major Manoj M., Director of Postal Services, Chennai and N.Rajagopalan, Superintendent of Posts, Vellore division also spoke.
