‘Ensure no student is left out in class 10’

While emphasising the responsibility of teachers in ensuring that no class 10 student fails in the forthcoming SSLC examination, Principal Secretary to School Education and Literacy Rashmi Mahesh said from this academic year schools will be evaluated on the basis of 100% result, wherein efforts made by teachers to make students overcome problems and clear examination will receive due weightage.

She was speaking at the inauguration of a workshop for teachers from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on improving SSLC results, at a private school in Haleyangady on Saturday. This workshop was the last in a series for teachers conducted by the School Education and Literacy Department since July.

“Right from the Principal Secretary to teachers, a chain of accountability is being created (for improving pass percentage of class 10 students,” Ms. Mahesh said, while stating that the pass percentage of class 10 students in the SSLC examination in Karnataka was lower compared to those in neighbouring States. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala have percentage of more than 90%.

The department has already given a blueprint of the question paper, which gives chapter-wise weightage of questions. The department has also released a bank of 8,000 questions. Model question papers have been released by Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB). The three SSLC preparatory examinations will be held on the basis of question papers set by KSEAB.

“In the next two-and-a-half months, focus on students, especially those who are slow for different reasons. Make them write as many questions. Ensure not a single child is left behind in the SSLC examination,” she advised the 200-odd teachers attending the workshop.

Commissioner for School Education Vikas Kishor Suralkar said teachers, who work in ensuring 100% pass percentage, will be rewarded, while action will be taken against those found wanting in this task.

Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Narwade Vinayak Karbhari said a list of 871 class 10 students who scored less in one subject in school tests, 746 students who have scored less marks in in two subjects, and 1,248 who have scored less in three or more subjects, have been prepared. Efforts are on by teachers to prepare these students.

“We hope no class 10 student will be left behind in the main SSLC examination (to be held from March 18 to April 2, 2026) from Dakshina Kannada,” Mr. Karbhari said.

Minister for School Education and Literacy Madhu Bangarappa, who is on tour, made a video call and addressed the teachers. The Minister asked teachers to make sincere efforts to ensure 100% results.
