DMK resorting to minority appeasement politics: Annamalai

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai on Tuesday condemned Opposition MPs for submitting a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to move an impeachment motion in Parliament against Justice G.R. Swaminathan of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court and alleged that the ruling DMK was resorting to “minority appeasement politics”.

Addressing a meeting in Puducherry, Mr. Annamalai questioned whether the 120 MPs belonging to the INDIA Bloc had signed the petition to express their frustration against the Hindus.

The deepathoon (pillar) belongs to the Thirupparankundram temple managed by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department under the Tamil Nadu government. While the trustees of the dargah on the hillock have not appealed against the ruling, the temple’s Executive Officer has filed an appeal in the Madras High Court.

Accusing the DMK of deliberately distorting facts, he said the appeal filed by the temple’s Executive Officer was politically motivated and aimed at securing the minority votes. He also condemned the Opposition MPs who had signed the petition.
