Hundreds of DMK cadres were arrested in different parts of Madurai district after they staged protests against the arrest of Leader of Opposition, Udhayanidhi Stalin, in connection with a case for allegedly making derogatory remarks, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the ruling TVK cadres too staged demonstration condemning Mr.Udhayanidhi.
The DMK cadres prosted in Palanganatham, Othakadi and Tirumangalam. They also police arrested those who blocked the road. This includeded former Minister, P. Moorthy and G. Thalapathi.
The protesters raised slogans against the TVK Government.
Meanwhile, TVK MLAs led their party cadres in protest demonstration in different parts of the city.
Madurai West MLA, S.R. Thangapandi justified the arrest of Mr. Udhayanidhi claiming that he had spoken ill of a woman and such police action will continue against such offenders. The protesters raised slogans condemning Mr. Udhyanidhi.
Party MLAs, A. Kallanai and M.M. Gopison also took part in the agitations.
