Dog park inaugurated in the Nilgiris

The Nilgiris MP, A. Raja, inaugurated the State’s first dedicated dog park, established at the tree arboretum in Udhagamandalam, on Sunday.

The Nilgiris district administration said the park has been constructed at ₹42.30 lakh and has playing areas for both large and small dogs. An agility course for dogs has also been installed as part of the dog park.

Pet owners from across the district and tourists have been urged to register ownership of their animals through the portal www.umcpetregistration.in. Each pet owner will have to provide basic details such as their name, address, email address, phone numbers, photo of their pet as well as their own, address proof and vaccination card of the pet before gaining entry into the dog park.

Mr. Raja also laid the foundation for the setting up of a skate park at ₹1.85 crore near Butfire in Udhagamandalam. The skate park will be set up over two acre with an 110-metre long ramp for skaters, a press release from the district administration said.

The Nilgiris MP also laid the foundation to instal high voltage underground cables worth ₹6.02 crore for the Municipality’s water supply station at the Parsons Valley Dam. Mr. Raja said that as overground power cables often became disconnected during monsoon season, that water supply to Udhagamandalam town would occasionally be cut off during spells of intense rain in the past. The new underground cables, once installed, will ensure water supply to all residents even during inclement weather, said the MP.
