A 45-year-old truck driver was killed and 17 others were injured after an State Transport Corporation (STC) bus collided with a truck carrying M-sand near Chengalpattu on Monday.
A senior police official of the Chengalpattu district said that 40 passengers were on board in the STC bus. As the bus was proceeding on the GST Road, to reach Kilambakkam, a speeding truck lost control and collided with the STC bus near Palaveli.
Owing to the collision, both the front portion of the truck and bus were completely damaged. The truck driver, Anand, a resident of Kattur village in Thirukazhukundram, was killed on the spot.
Surya, the driver of the STC bus was critically injured. All the injured persons were rushed to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital.
The Chengalpattu Taluk police have registered a case and a probe is under way.
