Eight persons, including four women, were arrested by the Tolichowki police for trafficking a minor girl and forcing her into prostitution at a brothel in Attapur after she was kidnapped from Tolichowki last month.
The accused were apprehended on Friday (October 9), within 24 hours of the case being reported.
Tolichowki ACP Syed Fayaz said that the arrested persons were identified as Shaik Atif, Sabiya Begum, Mohammed Hajimiya, Afreen alias Sana, Samreen Begum, Mohammed Nadeem, Mohammed Kaifuddin and Ali Bin Akram.
According to the officer, the girl was kidnapped by Atif in an autorickshaw from Tolichowki on September 2 and taken to Attapur, where she was handed over to two women, Sana and Samreen.
“The women initially attempted to gain the girl’s trust by promising her food and accommodation. They subsequently handed her over to Sabiya Begum, who operated a brothel near pillar number 200 in Attapur, in exchange for ₹30,000,” said the officer.
The amount was shared among Atif, Sana and Samreen, he added.
The police said the girl was subsequently confined to the premises and subjected to repeated sexual exploitation. When she pleaded with Sabiya Begum to let her leave, she was told that the three persons who brought her had received money in exchange for handing her over.
The ACP explained that Nadeem, Kaifuddin and Ali Bin Akram facilitated the movement of customers and managed arrangements at the premises.
The girl managed to escape from the brothel on October 5 and returned home, where she narrated her ordeal to her family. A complaint was subsequently lodged with the Tolichowki police.
Following an investigation, police teams traced and apprehended all eight accused on October 9. Six mobile phones and an autorickshaw bearing registration number TS 30 T 8350 were seized.
A case was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those relating to kidnapping, trafficking, wrongful confinement, rape and criminal conspiracy, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
The police said the accused trafficked the girl for financial gain, while the individual roles of those involved and the money transactions are being investigated.
The accused were produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
