The police have arrested a 70-year-old man on charges of killing an elderly woman following a verbal quarrel in Nolambur.
The police said the deceased, Mary, 79, had been living alone for the past three years at her residence on Vellalar Street in Periya Nolambur. On the night of December 14, her son, Elgise, alerted the police after finding her lying dead with bleeding injuries.
Following investigation, the police arrested Ezhumalai, 70, a neighbour residing on the same street, on Monday. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the accused had been frequently visiting the victim’s house over the past three years and that the two often quarreled over monetary transactions. On the day of the incident, an argument allegedly escalated, during which Ezhumalai is said to have assaulted Mary, killing her.
The police also recovered imitation jewellery allegedly taken from the victim after the incident.
