The election code of conduct for 108 ambulance workers was issued on Monday evening (March 23, 2026).
According to the guidelines, products other than medical equipment, medicines, and documents should not be taken in ambulances. Except during emergency, no other persons should be allowed into the ambulances. Permitted staff, government officials, and police are only allowed into the ambulance for checking and verifying documents.
During an emergency, patients, two persons accompanying patients and medical staff with identity cards should only be allowed in the ambulance. The staff should monitor the persons coming with patients to prevent them from opening equipment in the ambulances. If a patient or other persons own any election-related or campaigning items, they should be instructed to remove them. The money with the persons should be registered in the Patient Care Report (PCR).
Unidentified things of the patients should be handed over to Health/Police Department officials. During working hours, staff should not own any items that denote a political party or its symbols. No election campaign stickers should be pasted outside or inside the ambulances. While on duty, staff should not debate on political or election-related issues.
The guidelines added that the ambulances should not be parked where election campaigns are taking place. The driver and the ambulance staff should not accept any gifts or food items from anyone and cannot function in support of any political party. While the patient is in an ambulance, the patient should be shifted to the hospital before checking the ambulance, which can happen only with police monitoring. If the ambulance halts anywhere, the control centre should be alerted immediately. Without permission, clicking photos or videos of patients is not allowed.
