Email threatening explosion at Mangaluru RTO turns out to be hoax

An email threatening an explosion at the Mangaluru Regional Transport Office on Monday was found to be hoax, following a check of the premises by the Mangaluru police.

In the email sent to the official ID of the RTO early on Monday, the sender named a few terrorist groups attempting to carry out a blast in the office and divert attention from a pressing issue in Tamil Nadu. The sender said people should move out slowly out of the office to avoid the explosion.

Personnel from the Mangaluru South Police and the bomb detection and disposal squad rushed to the RTO office. After moving the RTO personnel and assembled people out of the building, a thorough search of the premises was conducted for nearly an hour and the email was found to be a hoax.

A case was registered at the Mangaluru South Police against the person who sent the mail. Efforts are on to trace the sender, the police said.
