Ensure drinking water during summer: DDC

As the district braces for the upcoming summer season, Collector N. Devidas has issued strict directives to ensure comprehensive preparedness and the availability of clean drinking water. Presiding over the District Development Committee (DDC) meeting, the Collector stressed on the urgent need to clean and maintain local water sources to prevent shortages. The urgent need to address and resolve the persistent water crises in Karunagappally and Munroe Thuruthu was brought to the attention of DDC at the meeting. Mr. Devidas instructed officials concerned to monitor water security measures with precision, ensuring that the public faces no hardships during the peak heat. Speaking at the meeting, he also directed to expedite the completion of National Highways Authority of India’s construction works near the Karunagappally bus stand.

P.A. Sajimon, representing Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar, pointed out that ensuring drinking water must remain the top priority as temperatures rise. He further demanded for the installation of women-friendly toilets in public institutions to improve basic sanitation facilities. S. Bukhari, representing Minister J. Chinchurani, raised concerns regarding the mental health of students appearing for public examinations. In response, Collector suggested utilising the services of Middle Level Service Providers (MLSPs) from the Health department to offer counseling services to help students manage the pressures of upcoming public examinations.

Infrastructure and regional development remained key topics throughout the discussion. Other issues brought to the attention of DDC include the proposal to widen narrow stretches of road, such as Kallumthazham, to 15 m to accommodate growing traffic and the suggestion that the Kollam-Theni highway should commence from the High School Junction. Representatives, including K.S. Venugopal for N.K. Premachandran, MP, Thodiyoor Ramachandran for K.C. Venugopal, MP, Abraham Samuel for Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, and district level officials attended the meeting.
