Erode Corporation to stop collecting waste from bulk generators

The Erode City Municipal Corporation has decided to stop collecting waste from bulk waste generators (BWGs), including marriage halls, and directed them to manage the waste generated on their premises in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.

A consultation meeting for BWGs was held at the Corporation Central Office on Friday (September 18, 2026). About 60 marriage hall owners from the Corporation’s four zones participated in the meeting.

Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain advised the hall owners to segregate waste at source, compost wet waste and hand over dry waste for recycling at their own cost. They were also advised against dumping waste on roads, in canals and other public places.

The participants were informed about the requirement to register as BWGs online and comply with the prescribed waste management norms. The Commissioner also said that fines would be imposed on those found dumping waste in public places. The officials also heard the grievances of the marriage hall owners and discussed measures for the proper handling and disposal of waste. 

City Health Officer K. Gowrishankar and officials were present.
