Excise enforcement teams seized 229 liquor bottles during special checks conducted at Pahadishareef as part of intensified measures ahead of the New Year celebrations, officials said on December 30.
Officials said the checks were carried out after receiving information that liquor sourced from the airport as well as from Goa, Delhi and Haryana was being transported into Telangana through the Pahadishareef road.
The raids were conducted by the Rangareddy State Task Force (STF)-B team with the support of personnel from the Saroonagar and Maheshwaram Excise Stations. All seized liquor bottles were handed over to the Saroonagar Excise Station for further action under the Excise Act.
In a separate operation, enforcement teams carrying out checks on the Sangareddy main road seized 7.165 litres of liquor that was being illegally imported from Goa. Officials said such drives would continue in the coming days to prevent unlawful liquor trade and ensure compliance with excise regulations during the holiday season.
