Tirunelveli District Collector Anand Mohan inaugurates the expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme for students of Classes VI to VIII at KR Government Higher Secondary School in Reddiyarpatti, Tirunelveli, on Tuesday.

The expanded breakfast scheme for students of Classes VI to VIII in government and government-aided schools in the four southern districts was launched on Tuesday.
Tirunelveli Collector Anand Mohan, who inaugurated the scheme and had breakfast with students of K.R. Government Higher Secondary School, Reddiyarpatti, along with Nanguneri MLA Reddiyarpatti V. Narayanan, said 45,753 students of 1,014 primary schools in the district were being served breakfast in the first phase.
With the expansion of the scheme to students of Classes VI to VIII, 32,734 students of 352 schools were now being served breakfast, he said.
Ingredients such as rice, dal, cooking oil and salt required for preparing the breakfast are being supplied by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, while the cooperative society supplies wheat, rava and vermicelli.
The menu includes pongal with sambar on Mondays and Wednesdays, rava kichadi with sambar on Tuesdays, upma or pongal with sambar on Thursdays, and rava or vermicelli kichadi with sambar on Fridays.
In Tenkasi district, 28,011 students are benefiting from the scheme — 12,483 under Phase I and 15,528 under Phase II — covering 256 schools. Of these, 181 schools are covered under Phase I and 75 under Phase II.
Tenkasi Collector Ranjeet Singh inaugurated the expanded scheme at Ayikudi Government Higher Secondary School in the presence of MP Rani Srikumar and MLAs Kalai Kathiravan of Tenkasi and T.M. Rajendran of Kadayanallur.
Minister for Tourism S. Rajesh Kumar inaugurated the scheme at Moosari Government Higher Secondary School in the presence of Kanniyakumari Collector M. Prathap.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar said 54,825 students in 921 government and government-aided schools had benefited following the launch of Phase II of the scheme.
Minister for Fisheries A. Srinath inaugurated the expanded breakfast scheme at Corporation Higher Secondary School at Samuelpuram along with Collector Vishu Mahajan and Corporation Commissioner C. Priyanka.
The minister said 57,259 students in 1,378 schools were benefited through the expanded breakfast scheme.
