Factories manufacturing banned single-use plastic carry bags and other prohibited plastic products will face disconnection of electricity and sealing of their premises and machinery for one year, Erode Collector S. Kandasamy has warned.

In a press release, the Collector said action was being taken against such units in accordance with Government Order No. 84 of the Environment and Forests (EC.2) Department, dated June 25, 2018.

Once a factory manufacturing banned single-use plastic products is identified, its electricity connection will be disconnected through the district coordination committee functioning under the chairmanship of the Collector. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) will take further action, he said. The factory premises and machinery will also be sealed for one year, the Collector said.

Mr. Kandasamy warned owners of factories against manufacturing banned single-use plastic products and advised landowners who lease out buildings or industrial premises to ensure that such products are not manufactured on their properties. Landowners would also be held accountable if their premises were used for manufacturing prohibited plastic products, the release said.
