Farmers demand linking of Cauvery-Ponniyaru-Thirumanimutharu in Salem and Namakkal districts

Farmers have demanded that the State and Union governments implement the Cauvery-Ponniyaru-Thirumanimutharu interlinking project, which benefits over 10 lakh people in five Assembly constituencies in Salem and Namakkal districts.

Every time, when the Mettur dam attains its full capacity of 120 feet, the surplus water is discharged. If there is good rain in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the surplus water discharge from the dam touches 50 to 90 TMC in the past years. The farmers demanding the use of three to four TMC of surplus water in the Cauvery-Ponniyaru-Thirumanimutharu interlinking project shall benefit over 10 lakh people in the Sankari, Tiruchengode, Rasipuram, Namakkal, and Paramathi Velur Assembly constituencies.
