Farmers seek explanation for blast‑like din, tremors felt in Dindigul

Farmers demanded an explanation for the mysterious blast-like din and tremors felt in parts of Dindigul district earlier this month. Complaining that it was recurring, the farmers urged the authorities to find out the reason and a solution.

At the farmers grievance redress meeting presided by Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan, the farmers said so far no clear explanation has been given on the blast-like sound and tremors felt in the district. The authorities said inspections were being carried out and a report will be issued in this regard soon.

A section of farmers urged the authorities concerned to remove encroachments on Chinnakulam tank. The authorities assured the farmers that steps will be taken to remove the encroachments on the tank. Farmers urged the authorities to take necessary action and protect the crops from wild animals.

They complained that wild animals were destroying crops. The authorities said the Forest Department officials will look into the issue and take necessary action.

Some of the other issues highlighted at the meeting were regarding waiver of crop loans and short supply of urea. They urged the authorities to ensure that there was adequate supply of urea. Farmers sought good quality road facilities. The authorities assured the farmers that good quality roads would be laid.
