Fear of losing power has ‘rattled’ Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, alleges K. Sudhakaran

Kannur MP and former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K. Sudhakaran on Thursday (December 18, 2025) alleged that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has “lost his composure out of fear of losing power”, citing police action against a parody song and reports of large-scale bomb-making in the State.

In a statement, Mr. Sudhakaran said the results of the recent Kerala local body electionshad “shattered the Left’s dream of a third Pinarayi government”, leaving the Chief Minister “rattled”. The registration of cases over the parody song and the alleged widespread manufacturing of bombs were part of this “panic”, he claimed.

Mr. Sudhakaran alleged that bomb-making was “currently rampant” at Pinarayi in Kannur, adding that an explosion had recently left a party loyalist, who he described as a “hardened criminal”, seriously injured. He said the “stockpiling” of arms and explosives was linked to “preparations” for the forthcoming Assembly elections.

Terming the case against the creators of the Pottiye Kettiye… parody song as “sheer authoritarianism”, Mr. Sudhakaran said the CPI(M) had reached a stage where it “feared even creative expression”. He accused the party of “intolerance at the highest level.”

‘A complete fasicst’

Mr. Sudhakaran further claimed that the Chief Minister’s “proximity” to the BJP had turned him into a “complete fasicst”. He said the parody song would unsettle “only those accused in the Sabarimala gold theft case and those protecting them.”

He also alleged that both the CPI(M) and the BJP had “repeatedly distorted devotional songs for political propaganda.” Mr. Sudhakaran also questioned the CPI(M)’s claim that the parody song hurt religious sentiments.

Recalling past controversies, Mr. Sudhakaran questioned the Chief Minister’s “moral authority to speak on the sentiments of believers”, alleging that it was Mr. Vijayan who earlier hurt religious feelings by “violating customs.”
