A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in connection with the death of an IIT Delhi PhD scholar who passed away at AIIMS on Saturday, more than 45 days after being found unconscious at his rented house in Munirka, police said on Sunday.A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Sunday into the death of an IIT Delhi PhD scholar at AIIMS on Saturday, weeks after he was found unconscious and injured at his rented house in Munirka on August 18, police said.

The case was booked under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment of suicide, following a complaint by an IIT Delhi security officer.

According to the police, the scholar was found unconscious and injured inside his rented house in Munirka on August 18. The door was locked from inside. Neighbours broke open the door, and the police shifted him to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he remained under treatment until he succumbed to his injuries on October 3, the police said.

Police clarified that the incident did not take place inside the IIT Delhi campus.
According to police, neither the family nor witnesses have raised suspicions or made allegations against anyone following the incident. The police said that the CCTV footage from outside the house confirmed that the scholar was alone inside the house.

The FIR has been registered following the Supreme Court’s directions and further probe is under way, said a police officer.
