A fire broke out at the Kodungaiyur dumpyard on Saturday afternoon, sending thick smoke across neighbourhoods. Officials said the blaze was brought under control by evening.
The dumpyard spans about 350 acres, of which 252 acres are used for dumping legacy waste. Residents in the surrounding areas complained of dense smoke and stench.
