ITREK, a collective involved in promoting responsible trekking, environmental conservation and welfare of the forest dependent communities, organised a specialised first aid and emergency life support workshop for forest guides at Ponmudi on Saturday.
The session, held at Ponmudi hill top, was designed for the forest guides of the Ponmudi and Kallar ecotourism circuits.
Over 60 people, including forest watchers and trekking guides, participated in the programme. They were imparted training by a specialised team in basic life support and CPR, handling wildlife-related injuries and snake bites, stabilising fractures and managing heat exhaustion, and emergency evacuation protocols in high-altitude environments.
Palode range forest officer Vipin Chandran V., ITREK founder Suresh Sam Chandy and Ponmudi Ecotourism secretary Shaji also spoke on the occasion.
