More than a hundred fisherfolk from areas, including Dhanushkodi, Ramakrishnapuram, Natarajapuram and Pudhu Road, marched in a procession and submitted a petition at the Ramanathapuram Collector’s public grievance redressal meeting here on Monday, demanding the withdrawal of the transport plaza project proposed in Dhanushkodi, which, they said, is in violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone.

The petitioners said that a large number of tourists arrives in hundreds of vehicles daily to the coastal areas of Dhanushkodi and Arichalmunai to enjoy the sea.

“Day by day, the number of tourists visiting Dhanushkodi is increasing. Consequently, to fulfil basic amenities and to further attract tourists, preliminary works are under way on behalf of the Tourism Department to construct an integrated transport plaza in the Dhanushkodi area, including a bus and vehicle parking lot, drinking water, toilets, a commercial complex, and a CNG bus service to enjoy the scenic beauty of the sea,” they added.
