Fit Mysuru Walkathon to be held in Mysuru on January 11

Fit Mysuru Walkathon, a joint initiative by University of Mysore (UoM), GSS Maadhyama, and Mysuru Gym Owners’ Association, will be held in the city on January 11, 2026.

An announcement in the regard was made in the city on December 23 by University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor N.K. Lokanath.

The five-km walk, scheduled to be held between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m., will start from the Open Air Theatre in Manasagangothri. “We are expecting about 10,000 walkers including students and inmates of hostels of UoM,” he said.

The objectives of the Fit Mysuru Walkathon include ‘Be Fit – Be Healthy’ and ‘Clean Mysuru, Green Mysuru, Safe Mysuru’. Promoting community-based fitness culture, creating awareness on cleanliness, sustainability and encouraging citizen participation in healthy lifestyle initiatives are the objectives of the Fit Mysuru Project.

The event is expected to be attended by different elected representatives, Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, Mysuru Development Authority Commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner, City Police Commissioner, and Superintendent of Mysuru district police.

While Dr. Usha Hegde, a professor of JSS Dental College in Mysuru who has scaled Mount Everest, has confirmed her presence as a special guest, an invitation has also been extended to former Indian pacer Javagal Srinath.

A poster on the walkathon was released on the occasion by Prof. Lokanath, Sreehari from GSS Maadhyama, UoM registrar Savitha, and Harsha from Mysuru Gym Owners’ Association.
