The Mangaluru South police have arrested five second year BBA students in connection with ragging of two first year BBA students on August 19.
The police gave names of the accused persons as Rahan M.P., Mohammed Uvais, Mohammed Adil U.P, Rohan Ranuesh and Nashed Amer. All the accused are aged 19 and are native of Kerala. They are second year BBA (Port Shipping Logistics) course students of a city college in Pandeshwar, the police said.
In a complaint to the police, a victim student alleged that nine second year students abducted him and his classmate while they were walking in front of the college on August 19. They were taken to a room, disrobed and assaulted. One accused threw polluted water on them when they asked for water to drink. After release of the two in the evening, the seniors threatened them later in the college and asked the two to come to the college with clean shave and without wearing shoes. On the advice of their parents, they filed complaint with the police seeking action against the accused students.
The police registered the complaint under Sections 140(3) (kidnapping), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118(1) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 109 (1) (Attempt to murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and under Section 116 of Karnataka Education Act.
