Five Left organisations, including the All India Students’ Association and the Students’ Federation of India, on Tuesday announced support for the October 10 protest “to consolidate the collective movement” against alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.

Several Opposition leaders as well as the Cockroach Janta Party have called for the protest in the national capital to demand Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

In a collective statement, the Left organisations, which also include the All India Students’ Federation, Progressive Students’ Union and All India Students’ Bloc, wrote: “Delhi and other regions have become hotspots of the ongoing protest joined by thousands every day demanding resignation and prosecution of Gyanesh Kumar, revocation of the draconian SIR and reformation of the Election Commission of India.”

The outfits appealed to all “democratic forces and individuals who uphold constitutional values” to join the protest.
