The Moinabad police arrested four persons in connection with the murder of a practising advocate at Kethireddypally village in Moinabad. The murder is alleged to have been committed over a dispute related to ancestral property.

The victim, G. Swapna, was a practising advocate at the Chevella court. Police said she was allegedly murdered by her elder brother Gotike Raju and three others. The other accused have been identified as Errolla Sandeep, Vadde Veeresh and Kavali Shiva Lingam.

According to Chevella DCP Yogesh Gautam, the incident took place on the morning of February 4 when Swapna and her mother Gotika Venkatamma went to their agricultural land at Kethireddypally village to conduct a survey. “After completing the survey, they were returning towards the road connecting Venkatapur and Nakkalapally when the accused allegedly arrived in a car and rammed into Swapna, causing her to fall into a pit,” explained the DCP.

He added that the accused then allegedly attacked her with sticks and stones, held her down and slit her throat with a knife. Though her mother raised an alarm and rushed to her aid, Swapna had already sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

“The motive behind the crime was a long standing dispute over four acres of ancestral land between the deceased and the prime accused. The accused are alleged to have planned the murder to eliminate Swapna and take control of the disputed property,” added the officer. Acting on information that the land survey was being conducted, they allegedly went to the spot in a car and a scooter, carrying a sickle, and carried out the attack before fleeing.

During the investigation, police seized a car, a scooter, four mobile phones belonging to the accused and the weapon allegedly used in the crime.
