The Central Prison in Kalaburagi has once again come under scrutiny after fresh videos surfaced on social media showing inmates engaging in gambling, consuming alcohol and smoking cigarettes inside the jail premises.
Over the past few months, several videos have been in circulation online showing inmates enjoying special privileges and leading a high-profile lifestyle inside the prison raising concern about prison administration.
On Tuesday, another video went viral in which main accused in the police recruitment scam R.D. Patil is making corruption allegations against the jail authorities.
A day later, on Wednesday morning, additional videos began circulating showing inmates involved in gambling and consuming alcohol within the prison.
With such incidents being reported repeatedly, the Central Prison is increasingly being compared to Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Prison which has earlier faced similar controversies.
Meanwhile, questions are being raised about the response of the prison authorities and their failure to act despite such repeated incidents.
However, officials have not issued any statement so far.
